Ray Shaahu ran for 247yds and 2 TD’s, Myles Peterson threw a TD to Ashton Lord and the Defense created 7 turnovers against none for the Stallions including a 90 yd interception return for a TD from Ernest Owusu but the game was still in the balance right up to the last play of the game.
The Stallions got the first break recovering their own kick off on the Spartans 35 yard line. After running for a first down Ernest Owusu intercepted their first pass attempt and returned to the Spartans 34 yd line. The Spartans moved the ball to the Wembley 36 before stalling and punting to the 9yard line. However the effective Stallions running game took control and drove back down the field to the Spartans 32 when Tom Kitchen sacked the QB, causing a fumble which he also recovered..
In the second quarter the Stallions were driving and got to the Spartan 10 yard line when Lawrence Reid tackled the Stallions WR who had caught a pass and jarred the ball loose which Kitchen recovered. The Spartans couldn’t take advantage and on their next possession the Stallions ran hard and converted their drive. The PAT failed leaving the score 6-0 Stallions.
The Spartans responded with great runs from Shahu and a 23yd pass from Peterson to Lord. Felix Olu ran in for the TD only to be called back for a penalty but on the next play Peterson found Lord in the end zone for a 25 yd TD. The 2 point attempt was successful when Peterson passed to Martin Winter who fought off 2 defenders to make the score 6-8 Spartans.
The Stallions took the kick off return all the way to the Spartans 15 yard line and ran the ball in for the TD on the next play. The PAT was good to make the score 13-8 Stallions. Time ran out as the Spartans were driving and mounting another good drive.
The third quarter was all Spartans with great running from Shaahu, Nick Walter and Olu behind a dominant offensive line resulting in Shaahu scoring with a 13 yd TD run. The PA attempt failed making the score 13-14 Spartans.
Paul Cossu then caused a fumble on the next Stallions drive which he recovered giving the offense the ball back and they took full advantage running the ball the length of the field and Shaahu scored his 2nd TD with an 11yd TD run. The 2 point PAT attempt was successful when Shaahu took the handoff with a defender about to hit him but managed to avoid the tackle before evading several more tacklers and scoring making it 13-22 Spartans.
Back came the Stallions needing to open up their passing game and they scored with a great TD catch. The 2 point conversion was good making it 21-22 Spartans.
The Spartans were unable to move the ball but on the next Stallions drive Reid recovered another fumble. Penalties stalled the next Spartans drive and then the Stallions drove to the Spartans 15 when Ernest Owusu intercepted the QB and ran 95 yds for the score. The PAT failed making the score 21-28 Spartans with under 2 minutes remaining.
However the Stallions return group which had caused problems all game came up trumps again returning the kick off to the Spartans 3 yard line and then scored on the next running play to make the score 27-28. The Stallions bravely went for a two point conversion for the win but the Spartans D held strong and the running attempt failed allowing the Spartans to come out on top of a thrilling game.
