Essex Spartans Academy Welfare Officer Michelle Watson has been nominated for an Active Basildon Sports Award for her work with the American Footballing youngsters.
The ‘Unsung Hero’ (Volunteer) award was open to nominees whom are, ‘A volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport’.
Mrs Watson, 35, was nominated for the award by Essex Spartans Head Coach Steve Watson who described her as dedicated, professional and a ‘key component’ on the organisation of the youth programme, whom provide fully-kitted practice and competitive American Football fixtures for boys and girls aged 14-19.
Michelle Watson, a passionate Jacksonville Jaguars fan, has completed a large number of administrative, managerial and welfare-compliance-based tasks throughout the season on behalf of the Essex Spartans Academy, whilst dealing with a debilitating illness and undergoing spinal surgery.
She said: “I feel really honoured to be nominated for the award.
“I love my role in the Essex Spartans Academy; together with the coaching staff we love helping our young players learn, compete and grow in the sport of American Football.
“It feels rather humbling that Active Basildon has shortlisted me for simply doing something that I love so much.”
The ‘Unsung Hero’ (Volunteer) award winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 20th October 2015.
The Essex Spartans Academy Under-17s team competed in this year’s playoff stage for Junior Britbowl, whilst the Under-19s completed their season with outstanding results against the local giants.
