The Essex Spartans Academy enjoyed an afternoon in the sunshine on Saturday as they took part in Highwood Primary School’s American-themed 4th July ‘Summer Sizzler’.
The Academy coaching staff, headed up by Head Coach Steve Watson, were joined by several Under-19s Academy stars to run a trial session and demonstration for local children at the fete.
Watson, 39, said: “We are so thrilled to be invited here to put on this display for the kids, and to be able to showcase our club and show what we’re about.
“The community is what keeps us in business and we hope that we have inspired some new players to participate in our sport today.”
16-year-old Quarterback Ryan McCloughlin was one of the players helping out with the demonstration on the day.
McCloughlin, who has just finished his GCSEs and is looking forward to starting college this September, said that the more players the Spartans Academy can inspire, the better.
“We’re a team that always strives to be the best that we can be,” he said.
“It’s really important that we come out into schools and do days like this to show how successful kids from round here can be when they really, really try.”
The Spartans Academy train on Sundays at Hannakins Farm, Billericay and welcome players of both genders aged 14 and above to express their interest.
